On Mobile Phones, Privacy and Sense of Urgency (?)

i am not so keen about people giving out my mobile number to other people, especially those i don't know. i would appreciate it if before sharing my number, you'd ask for my permission first. just out of courtesy, you know. yes, my current number is a company number so company-related callers with official business are welcome. but still, it wouldn't hurt to let me know you have forwarded my contact details to somebody who needs to get in touch with me or my boss. i more than understand that my position entails it. nor do i mind friends giving my number to other friends or acquaintances--people whom i've actually met and shared some conversations with. i guess my point here is, i don't like people just carelessly throwing my contact number around and sharing it with people i don't really know and don't even have a business-related agenda with me. it's a little annoying.

i don't mind getting calls from friends as early as 7am or as late as 12mn. they're my friends, they're always welcome. but non-friends aren't. yeah, i am such a priss but i value my privacy and family time that's why it irks me when i receive calls a little later than the decent hour (that's 9pm for me). again, my phone line is open 24/7 but i'd appreciate it if people would also try to think if their need to talk to me is that urgent (matter of life and death, if beyond 9pm, i say. haha) or not. if yes, then go ahead and give me a ring. if not, then you better wish i am not in a foul mood. even my boss doesn't bother me beyond 6pm not unless it's super duper urgent and he's very apologetic everytime he calls me after office hours or on a weekend. i guess it's just a matter of respecting one's time and privacy.

i have a full time career, and that basically means i am occupied for at least 9.6 hours everyday. there are days when i am swamped with work i can hardly comb my hair in place and there are also days when i get bored, i'm ready to jump off from my 8F window to entertain myself. these days though, i am most often busy and can't immediately reply to text messages or answer phone calls. i shuffle from one office to another every hour or so and since both phones are not tied to my waist, i miss a few calls. so my apologies if there are times when i can't get back to you as soon as you want me too. a higher being needs my attention more. and he happens to pay my salary. hahaha. i know, i know, you understand but there are some who cannot, and i wonder why the hell not. i don't think i am ever obliged to reply to every single sms i get asap (sama sa dili pod ko obliged mag comment sa tanang blog entries na akong basahon, but again, that's just me) so it's a trifle irritating for messages like "why aren't you replying?" to litter my inbox. sometimes i am tempted to quip, "because i have a life?" hahaha.

well yes, you may say i am somebody who has lots of issues and i don't deny that. and while here i am, ranting about some person's lack of ethics (because all it takes for me to spew a few not-so nice blog entries is really just one person), i am still quite patient and tolerant, if i may so myself. there are just some people who didn't pay attention to their GMRC classes.

bad, bad posture

attended plantation bay's christmas tree lighting party last night. except that we were unable to join the christmas tree lighting because we were stuck in traffic. i didn't know where all those vehicles came from last night, i swear. it's the christmas season traffic, i know! the party was in full swing when we arrived so to the buffet tables we trooped immediately.

halfway through dinner, our account executive L approached our table for some chicka-chicka. then she got my business card because there's a raffle and they're giving away overnight stays. you see, i've never been lucky in these kinds of things. while there are those who never leave raffle events empty-handed, i belong to the unfortunate ones who never win anything. not even minor prizes. but i just gave L my card, it's one silly card anyway. the raffle started and they started calling out winners for overnight stays. i crossed my fingers and whispered, "i wish i'd win an overnight stay too so i can give it to my parents when they're here next week." but of course, after i uttered it, i let it go. then i resumed my tete-a-tete with one of our GMs who attended the party. suddenly, the GM stopped talking and i just heard my name being called out. turned out i won something! but since i was so busy talking, i didn't know what i won exactly! hahahaha. on the way to the stage, i was thinking, perhaps i got a really great prize (like an overnight stay in their posh-est room because usually, they save the best for last? hahaha). but no, it wasn't an overnight stay but it's this grand, super special spa package! whee! never underestimate the power of a whispered wish. :)

i couldn't give the spa package for my mother because she'd be bored by herself. and i couldn't very well afford it if we'll go together. so instead, i'll do this and i'll just treat her to lunch. hahaha.

all in all, it was a fun saturday night. more happy things coming up! :)

Drats!

i need to write something and i only have two days (yes, two amazingly short days) to finish it. and work's piling up and the weekend's kinda full that i'm not sure if i'll have the strength (and dedication) to come up with a decent script even if they'd extend the deadline. inspiration, where are you when i need you the most??

deym writer's block. and i'm not even a writer. sheesh.

ps: the only consolation though is that i got something for my event already. mheme, thanks again for the time and patience. hahaha.

Mid-Week Forays to the Island

just got back from mactan, not to attend the fiesta. but to visit two places - abaca and microtel inn and suites.

had a very sumptuous lunch at abaca where we were warmly entertained by their manager, glenn. we had their mushroom soup, then flat bread pizza, pasta and roast beef sandwich for the main course and mint, cheese and chocolate sorbet for dessert. it was heaven! i was so full by the time we're done it was so tempting to take a nap in one of their feels-like-paradise villas. hahaha. oh yes, abaca doesn't only serve really yummy food but they do have 6 suites and 3 villas that are perfect for honeymoon or weekend getaways. all furniture and fixtures are antiques and 80% are actually locally made. plus, when you stay in a villa, you'll have your own personal butler who can accompany or drive you to the city (if you're a tourist) and tour you around. isn't that neat?

we also got to meet abaca's owner and chef, jason, who actually has a big chance of being a hollywood actor. yeah, he's that cute. and the fact that he really whips up these super delish dishes definitely makes him a superstar!

when lunch was over, glenn was nice enough to bring us to the newly-opened microtel inn and suites where their GM, rose, and account executive, sheng, showed us the rest of this new and bursting-with-life hotel. oh by the way, microtel's restaurant is managed by abaca thus the good relationship between the neighbors. they're just really next to each other. i actually saw magtv's feature on this new spot to watch out for in mactan last sunday, thus my interest.

and it didn't disappoint. microtel does have a very "alive" and vibrant lobby, thanks to all Kenneth Cobonpue furniture and the amazing view of the beachfront. that's what i like most about it, its beachfront and infinity pool. yes, it's a little small but it's okay for family weekend get-togethers. they have three room categories - superior, premium and the suite. the rooms have that trendy, colorful feel as well and they do have a "theme" for every floor. can you say retro? hehe. microtel is your typical bed and breakfast place, only they can offer so much more.
i can't wait to spend a day or two in these heaven-on-earth spots. please visit their websites to know what i am really talking about. and no, this is not a paid ad. hahaha.
