"Mommy, It's Christmas!"
i used to enjoy hearing carolers sing outside our home. i grew up in a small town where daigon is very much practiced and how 6pm signals the start of merrymaking and singing at every home possible, every night. lately though, it annoys me how kids think of daigon as just a way of earning money. i mean, yes, it's a fun way to earn the next day's baon but when they become competitive and try to take advantage of you by coming back to your place twice or even thrice a night, it takes the joy out of this christmas tradition.
our former nanny taught raf to say, "walay taw" whenever some people would start singing on our doorstep. we seldom have kids do the daigon here in our subdivision. we usually have teenagers and org members doing the nightly rounds.
raf was watching tv while i was checking my blog earlier when a group of boys sang "jingle bells." i gave him the hush signal so he wouldn't acknowledge the carolers' presence and immediately open the windows. i would have just wanted for them to sing until they get tired and assume nobody's home. i know, i know. i am such a scrooge. hehe. i was telling raf to sit down and just ignore the people outside when he said, "mommy, it's christmas. christmas di ba. oh, tan-awa ang christmas tree." i was embarrassed. hehehe. here is my 3-year old, telling me that in the spirit of christmas, i should stop being such...an adult. hahaha. i asked the nanny to get my wallet upstairs so i can shell out something for the carolers.
yes, christmas is indeed for the children and i owe it to them to make it as happy and as wonderful as it should be. jaded and cynical people are not allowed. ;)

@ Mai: nakasab-an lagi ko. hehe. and raf's face when he told me that was so serious and adamant.
hehehe, he has a very good point mommy. =)
hahaha, nalingaw ko nimo kaith, dah, sab-an ka ni raf, haha=) bitaw sad noh, i think you shoul ask the yaya to check if she noticed if the carolers were the same kids that sang a few minutes ago..their trick is, theyd go back to the same house whose occupants gave them money...so once you give na, and if the yaya says, ahh, they've sang today, so tell them, tomorrow nasad, haha=)
@ Patricia: yes, and for a three-year old! haha.
@ photosandmemos: that's why i get wary if we get visited by 3 or 4 groups at one time. feeling nako magbalik-balik lang gyud. si raf man gyd, mag-enjoy sya watch sa mga bata or bisan sa mga dagku mag sing. that's why he says na tagaan gyd. hehe.
